When should I schedule a pediatric eye exam?

Like adults, kids need routine comprehensive eye exams to check for vision changes and assess eye health. Your pediatrician may check your child’s vision during their annual wellness exam, but this vision test may not detect all vision problems or eye conditions. 

Your child should have their first pediatric eye exam at six months of age, then again at age 3 and age 5 or 6. School-aged children should have a pediatric eye exam every two years.

If your child has a vision problem or an eye condition, they may need a pediatric eye exam every year. 

What happens during a pediatric eye exam?
